Is it just me, or did September go by in a blink?
Now we are full swing into fall, the days are getting noticeably shorter. This time of year we start spending more time indoors, and making our homes feel warm and cozy.
For many people this means fall scented candles, plug-ins, and sprays. I know, because I used to be one of those people, too. When I learned how harmful they are I gave up my candles, plug ins, sprays, wax melts, sprinkles, and everything else with artificial fragrance as an ingredient.
Was it easy? Heck no. I didn’t want to part with them. But it was necessary because all those things are full of super harmful chemicals that have been linked to lots of health offenses, ranging from headaches, dizziness and allergy symptoms to asthma attacks, respiratory tract infections and even cancer. Many of these chemicals are endocrine disruptors, meaning they disrupt your hormones and can cause reproductive issues and more.
But if your candles have lead free wicks and are made from soy or beeswax they are clean, right? WRONG. It’s the synthetic fragrance that makes your candles and wax melts smell so strong that is the problem. But there is a better way – a diffuser and some essential oils!

With so many oils to choose from I can create any scent combo I want. Within minutes my home is filled with the warm scents of fall, and I enjoy the benefits of the oils instead of the dangers of the harmful chemicals!!!
And I don’t miss the ambiance of having a candle flickering because many diffusers have a “candle flicker” mode. WIN-WIN!

By diffusing I get clean smells that are less expensive than candles, and don't have to worry about having an open flame in my house emitting soot, and I definitely don't have to worry about my cat Mazzie catching herself, or the house, on fire.
Yes, this is a picture of my girl, she is a champagne point Tonkinese. Her favorite oils are Frankincense and anything with Melissa or Rose in them. And YOUNG LIVING brand of essential oils are safe to diffuse around cats!
How can you argue with something that is better for you, less expensive, and safer for your family and pets?
Here are some of my favorite fall diffuser recipes:
