How I Fight The Winter Blahs

Welcome January! The hustle and bustle of the holidays are over, and the days are getting noticeably longer already. But if you are like me, you may get the winter blahs. That’s a perfect time to use Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis).
Did you know that Orange essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind of the fruit? Your orange essential oil should smell just like when you peel a ripe orange and the rind puts up a little “spritz”. Orange is one of my favorite scents; it just reminds me of sunshine!
Orange essential oil is high (90-95%) in a natural chemical called Limonene. Limonene has been studied extensively and has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress, and possibly disease-preventing properties.

That humble little old orange has so many amazing uses!
Fragrantly, Orange essential oil is uplifting and can be used to help combat the winter blahs due to its antidepressant-like effects (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30905156/).
Think about this: Did your mom or grandma ever boil orange peels and cinnamon sticks to add moisture and scent the air? She was diffusing orange and cinnamon and didn’t even know it!
Orange oil is easy to use:
>>Add a few drops to a cold water diffuser, either by itself or mix it with another relaxing oil, such as Lavender. Or, you could add Cinnamon Bark with the Orange and see if it doesn’t smell like grandma’s stove-top concoction.
>>Sniff it right from the bottle, or add a few drops in a sniff tube. You can get sniff tubes fairly cheap on Amazon, or you can put a few drops on a cotton ball and tuck it into a cleaned out repurposed pill bottle and sniff as needed.
>>Add a few drops of Orange to a cupful of Epsom salts and dump it into a warm bath or even a foot bath. If you love bubbles, add your Orange to some unscented castile soap (I love Young Living’s Bath and Shower Gel Base) for a sunshiny bubble bath; either way, soak and enjoy!

Keep in mind that Orange essential oil can be photo-sensitizing, so if you use it topically be sure to apply it where the sun (or tanning lamps) won’t shine on it.
Let me know your favorite ways to use Orange essential oil!
Until next time, stay oily!
Peace & Love,
Janet
P.S. Need high-quality oils? I trust Young Living (and their Seed to Seal Quality Commitment) to provide high-quality essential oils, because oils from the bargain bin at the dollar store just don’t have the same therapeutic qualities, and most likely contain additives or residues that you definitely DO NOT want.
